The Hornery Group
The Early Days
Like so many other Australian farming families, Percy and Sandra Hornery were given a huge opportunity when they drew a Ballot block in the 1971 Central Queensland Brigalow scheme. It was a modest beginning, residing in a tin shed without power, but with a BIG Vision, the Hornery Group’s patriarchs were determined to succeed.
Percy and Sandra always encouraged their sons to follow their dreams and turn their passions into businesses with the foresight to keep their strong family unit together, trading as The Hornery Group.
Bar H Grazing
After 20 years of running a commercial Cattle Operation, Percy recognised the need to enhance the eating quality of his herd if he was to remain profitable within the beef industry. Percy was introduced to the Wagyu breed and instantly recognised the huge potential these Wagyu Cattle had to offer. He embarked on a 12 year artificial breeding program using selected premium genetics. Being one of the early pioneers of the Australian Wagyu breed has allowed Bar H Grazing to be in the forefront of the industry with proven genetics, consistently producing high quality feeder heifers, steers and bulls with exceptional levels of marbling.
Hornery Water and Transport
Having a lifelong passion for trucks, an unwavering dedication and the ability to surround himself with great people, have all been contributing factors for Derran Hornery’s success with the Hornery Water and Transport business. Attention to detail in every facet of the business and the drive to be the safest, cost effective, client focused service provider is the commitment the Hornery Water and Transport team strive to maintain. The fleet is maintained to impeccable standards by our highly qualified, safety conscious staff. We use our onsite in-ground roller brake tester and shaker plates because it is the most accurate method of testing available and safety to our fleet is paramount. Engineering bays and elite wash down facility are additional services our state of the art workshop contains.
Hornery Helicopter Services
An efficiency gain for our clients has been one of the driving forces behind the conception of HHS. After the completion of Derran’s Helicopter Pilot License and the purchase of a new Robinson R44 in 2010, an opportunity arose to provide this diverse region with an alternate mode of transport. We cater for companies with staff working in remote locations providing an aerial service in case of emergency from flooding, accidents or illness as well as limiting downtime hours between shift changes. Our experienced and highly qualified Chief Pilot Kent Hansen is eager to provide a professional, client focused service which may include aerial surveillance, charter or photography. The exhilarating experience of a helicopter flight is indescribable for a first time flyer and Hornery Helicopter Services pilots are honoured to be able to share this with our clients.
The Hornery Family have seen firsthand the struggles for cancer fighters and their loved ones and have the burning desire to “help make a difference”. They are the founders of the “4ULOC” Trust Fund, which through fund raising, provide additional non-government funded medical equipment and comfort items for the care and comfort of Cancer patients and their families at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Foundation. Items are requested by hospital staff through feedback from the patients or the need to cater for the wellbeing of the patient in destressing times. The “4ULOC” Pink Trucks were introduced in honour of Lachlan Hornery, who lost his fight with Cancer in 2008. The Pink Trucks are mine compliant and $25 per hour is donated to the RBWH Foundation when the trucks are at work. The Hornery Group initiated Moranbah’s 4U2 Concert in 2013, which has so far raised over $150K which is donated to CQ Rescue and RBWH Foundation. The event is a community day out for the whole family with entertainment from nationally recognised bands and kids rides and loads of other entertainment.
The Hornery Family
It is the Hornery Family Belief, that any company or individuals, who engage our services are entitled to a 100% guarantee that the task or tasks will be performed in a friendly, safe, efficient and professional manner to provide our client with the best possible outcome.
Our guarantee extends to only employing the right people to work with us, those people want to be in our industry, not have to be in it. Our staff share the same set of beliefs as us, people that find it rewarding to give more to our clients. Our Business would not be the business it is today without the dedication of our staff.
Sincerely, The Hornery Family
